Asian Aquaculture 2018 Farm Tour

Asian Aquaculture 2018 delegates will have a chance to visit one of the most successful shrimp farms, located in the Nakhon Nayok Province of Thailand on 6 December 2018. Lom Rak is a 32-hectare farm with Pacific white shrimp and giant freshwater prawn as the main species of interest. This intensive shrimp farm is unique to have organic certification for several fruit and vegetable crops, and is surrounded by extensive areas of plantation crops, comprising as many as 50,000 banana plants among others that serve as buffer zone. The farm also has an on-farm feed mill using fermented soybean meal. Bananas are also utilized in preparing farm made feeds. Proper management of water quality is practiced for maintaining the organic farm even at such an intensive scale.
